Timeline
Final design underway; right-of-way being acquired
In its October 2024 update the county reported that construction plans were in progress and right-of-way acquisition was ongoing for Phase I. No construction start date was given.
Why it matters: Right-of-way and final plans are the last steps before a project can be let for construction, so this is the stage to watch for a build date.
County approves the FM 546 / CR 400 alignment
Collin County Commissioners Court approved the route for the FM 546 and CR 400 improvements, locking in where the widened road will go between Bridgefarmer Road and US 380. This let the county move into detailed design.
Why it matters: Approving the alignment is the step that decides which land the road needs — the starting point for right-of-way near Lowry Crossing’s western edge.
FM 546 — Phase II
TxDOT corridor project to widen FM 546 from Airport Drive in McKinney to CR 393 near Lowry Crossing.
Where it stands
FM 546 would become a four-lane divided road with room to grow to six lanes. TxDOT held corridor meetings in April 2022 and May 2023; the public comment window closed May 31, 2023. The project is still in study and environmental review.

Why it matters: This is the McKinney-side stretch many Lowry Crossing drivers use. The comment period is now closed, so the next word will come from TxDOT’s environmental review.

Why it matters: A wider road and new bridge would improve the western route toward Lucas, but with no construction funding yet the work is likely several years out.
