Spur 399 McKinney expansion under construction — first traffic shifts expected spring 2026
TxDOT broke ground on the Spur 399/SH 5 widening in McKinney in June 2025. The first segment (Stewart Road to Eldorado Parkway) is widening from four to six lanes at a cost of $157 million. First traffic shifts are anticipated for spring 2026, with completion of this segment expected by summer 2029. The larger $1 billion extension to US 380 will be bid in 2026.
US 380 Prosper/Frisco freeway conversion — construction starting 2026
TxDOT plans to begin construction in 2026 on the US 380 segment from Teel Parkway to west of Lakewood Drive (Prosper/Frisco area). The 5.9-mile project will widen and convert US 380 into a freeway. This segment connects to the Denton County project nearing completion and will extend the freeway further into Collin County.
